Our love of citrusy-smelling sassafras trees led us to create this leafy pumpkin stencil. We kept the leaf's elegant, three-point design and gave it an easy-to-carve profile, just for you. Download the free pattern by clicking the link below!
While it certainly won't make your pumpkin smell citrusy, don't worry -- this next tip creates a scent-sensation even better! Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg inside the empty pumpkin cavity before adding a lit candle; the candle's warmth will intensify the fragrance, resulting in a pumpkin pielike aroma.
1. Sign in to BHG.com to access our stencil pattern. Print the pattern, and position it against the outside of your cleaned-out pumpkin, securing it with tape.
2. With a pushpin, perforate the stencil lines by creating tightly spaced pin holes around the leaf design. Tear off the stencil after you've finished transferring the leaf design onto the pumpkin's skin.
3. Use a sharp woodcutting knife to saw along the pin holes. Press on the leaf-shape piece from inside your pumpkin to prod it out, and throw the excess piece away.
4. Light your pumpkin's interior with a battery-operated or traditional candle.
