Happy Halloween Pumpkin Stencil
This friendly ghost is wishing everyone well on his favorite day of the year. Spread his cheerful greeting to all your friends and neighbors by displaying it proudly on your jack-o'-lantern. Carve your own pumpkin from our stencil to bring this hospitable little ghoul to your front porch.
You'll need a steady hand to carve this greeting, and the right tools are useful, too! For intricate pumpkin-carving designs, avoid using kitchen knives. Instead, purchase a specialty pumpkin-carving knife from a Halloween supply store; it should be small, serrated, and designed to maneuver in tight spaces. We also swear by a triangular-headed clay modeling tool for smoothing jagged edges after carving.
1. Cut a circle in the bottom of your pumpkin, and pry it open. Scoop out all the messy interior bits and scrape the pumpkin's inside wall thinnest on the side you're planning to carve.
2. Print and tape your stencil to the pumpkin's surface, and use a needle tool to pierce the pumpkin along the stencil lines, transferring the design to your pumpkin.
3. Remove the stencil and locate etched areas on it. (These sections are found within dotted lines.) Etch these areas with a gouge or electric etching tool by gently peeling off the pumpkin's top layer of skin.
4. Locate carved areas on the stencil. (These sections are found within solid lines.) Carve these areas with a specialty pumpkin-carving knife, like the one described above. (Hint: Carve sections from the center and work your way outward.) After completely carving the design, pop out carved pieces by pressing with your fingers to dislodge them.
