Halloween Mouth Pumpkin Stencil

We didn't mean to put words in this jack-o'-lantern's mouth, honestly! He's just dying to tell you his favorite holiday, and the poor guy can't talk. So we spelled it out for you in his cartoonish, toothy grin, and we think he's rather pleased about it. Make your own mouthy jack-o'-lantern by downloading our stencil pattern; it's free!

The beauty of these chunky stencil letters is they can be resized easily to fit your pumpkin without losing their carvability. If your pumpkin is larger or smaller than the stencil size accommodates, just use a photocopier to adjust the stencil size to fit.

To carve:

1. Click on the button above to download the pdf stencil pattern. Print and, if necessary, resize it to better fit your pumpkin.

2. Tape the printed stencil to a pumpkin you've gutted and scraped. Use a large nail or pin tool to prick holes along the stencil lines, transferring the pattern to the pumpkin's surface. Keep pin pricks within 1/8" of each other for best results.

3. Carve along the pin prick lines with a specialty pumpkin-carving knife or thin, serrated wood-cutting knife. After carving the entire design, pop carved sections outward by pressing on them gently. (Hint: If carved sections are difficult to remove, run your knife around their edges and corners to make sure they've been cut completely free from the pumpkin.)

4. Illuminate the design by placing an electric candle in the pumpkin cavity.
