DIY This Witch Halloween Lawn Decoration

Boil, boil, this outdoor Halloween decoration is no trouble. Step up your Halloween yard decorations with this DIY life-size outdoor witch that will have the neighbors peeking through their curtains. Download our free stencil to cut out this hard-at-work witch from plywood.

What You Need

  • 1/4-inch plywood
  • Jigsaw
  • Sandpaper
  • Primer: spray-on or brush-on
  • Paint: flat black spray-on or brush-on
  • 3-foot-long wooden stake
  • Black dry-wall screws

How to Make It

Trace, Place, Cut

Use a grid or photo copier to enlarge the witch pattern (our witch stands 5 feet tall, for reference). Trace the pattern onto plywood big enough to include the witch pattern. Using a jigsaw, cut out the witch by following your traced pattern. Repeat these steps to create a cat or cauldron to accompany the witch. Find free downloads to all three patterns above.

Smooth, Paint, Stake

Use sandpaper to smooth the rough cut edges, then cover the witch in primer. We chose to do the front and back of the witch, but you can save on paint by only covering the side facing away from the house. Paint the witch black. For full coverage, make sure to let the paint fully dry between coats. Then screw the wooden stake to the back of the witch cutout, extending the stake below the bottom edge far enough to push into the ground.

  1. There is no cauldron template to download

    1. Just my guess: It looks like the cauldron is a real, cast iron pot (“cauldron”) with dry ice creating the smoke. Check a farm store, or camping supply store...the most likely places to find one.
