We stopped in our tracks the first time we saw 'Pink Zazzle' gomphrena. Its big, bright, petal-packed blooms explode with color all summer long. The flowers are also highly attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. 'Pink Zazzle' forms a compact mound that excels in beds, borders, or containers.

Caladium 'Red Bellied Tree Frog'

We'd grow this new caladium for the name alone! 'Red Bellied Tree Frog' is a tropical, sun-tolerant variety that shoots up large, red, heart-shape foliage with dark green edges. Like the tree frog it's named for, the leaves have a reflective sheen that makes the colors even more vivid.

Over the past few years some gardeners have had to avoid planting impatiens due to a downy mildew outbreak across the country. But now that's changed thanks to Bounce 'Pink Flame' impatiens. A 2015 All-America Selections award winner, Bounce 'Pink Flame' has larger flowers than standard impatiens and thrives in sun or shade. And, if wilt does occur, the plants bounce back quickly. Dianthus 'Dash Magician'

If David Copperfield had ever decided to go into plant breeding, he probably would have come up with 'Dash Magician' dianthus. The delightfully fragrant ball-like flowers of this compact plant change color as they mature, starting out bright pink, then turn rose, and finally become white. Each flower head can be three colors at once! Use this dianthus to add a magical touch to borders and containers.

The world of pansies was turned on its head a few years ago when trailing forms of this classic favorite were introduced. This year, one of our favorites is Cool Wave 'Blueberry Swirl'. We fell in love with its prostrate habit and amazing color. Each primrose-blue and yellow flower is delicately marked with purple highlights that give each bloom its own personality. Use Cool Wave 'Blueberry Swirl' in spring or fall containers and flower borders.

Osteospermum 'Blue Eyed Beauty'

Also called African daisy, osteospermum is prized for its cold-tolerant, daisylike flowers. This year there's a gorgeous new osteospermum called 'Blue Eyed Beauty'. It produces jewel-like yellow flowers with reddish-purple centers in the early spring and keeps on blooming until hot summer temperatures slow it down. When temperatures cool back down in the fall, the plants burst back into flower. Use 'Blue Eyed Beauty' in pots, planters, or flower borders.
