Botanical Night-Light Shade

When life gives you a windfall of leaves -- make botanical lampshades! Here, we will show you how to craft your own night-light shade.

Botanical Night-Light Shade

In just four easy steps you can create an elegant botanical shade to light the way at night. Once you've completed this project, try the same technique on a full-size lampshade.

Step 1: Gather your Materials

Here's what you'll need:

  • Night-light frame
  • Mica sheeting

  • Clothespins

  • Copper foil
  • Dried botanicals
  • Paintbrush

  • Glue

Step 2: Cut and Trim

Using a night-light or shade frame as a pattern, cut the mica sheeting to the right size; hold in place with clothespins. Cut the copper foil to cover the seams, trimming the foil to size.

Step 3: Brush with Glue

Lay the dried botanicals on the shade in your desired design. Rehydrate each dried botanical by gently brushing it with glue.

Step 4: Create Your Design

Add more botanicals to create a flowing design on the shade, hydrating each dried specimen with glue, then gluing it into place. Let the glue dry, then apply another coat.
