What You Need

Materials

  • Dried gourd
  • Teardrop wood pieces
  • Ribbon with lace edge
  • Wooden matchsticks (2.6 inch x 0.1 inch x 0.01 inch)

Tools

  • Drill
  • 1/16 drill bit
  • Wood file
  • Hammer
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Scissors

Step 1: Draw Door and Windows

Draw a 2.5-inch circle on the front of the gourd for the door. Draw a 1-inch circle on each side for the windows.

Step 2: Drill Holes

Using drill bit, drill holes on the perimeter of all the circles.

Step 3: Break Away Sections

Use a hammer to break away those sections. File the rough edge to smooth.

Step 4: Add Curtains

Cut two pieces of ribbon to fit window, and apply hot glue along top. Attach to the inside of the gourd above to window to create the curtain. Repeat on the other side.

Step 5: Add Window Frames

Cut two twigs to fit diameter of window. Hot glue both ends of one twig and fit into window. Once dry, glue both ends of another twig and place over window beam. Repeat on other window.

Step 6: Create Shingles

To create shingles, start placing teardrop pieces where you want roofline to be. Use hot glue to attach teardrop pieces to gourd. Work your way around and up.
