Shoe Organization Tips

Keep Supplies Close: Fill plastic boxes with shoe-care products and store in an accessible spot. Whether you sit down at a dedicated shoe station to freshen up the entire season's collection or just need to touch up a scuff while dressing in your bedroom or bath, kits put everything you need at your fingertips. Labels are an easy and inexpensive way to get organized and always find what you need. Make paper labels for clear storage boxes by attaching adhesive letters to scrapbooking paper. Affix the label from inside the container with a piece of clear packing tape.

Be Prepared: Stock your shoe-care kits with rubber gloves and plenty of old newspaper. When it's time to spruce up a pair of shoes, you can get right to work, using the box lid and newspapers to protect the work surface.

Rotate for the Season: Protect off-season shoes by storing them in sturdy boxes with lids to minimize dust. Stash them out of the way on a high shelf or under your bed.

Incorporate Savvy Storage: A dresserlike storage unit is designed to hold a multitude of shoes in flip-down bins. After you organize your collection, use decorative decals to identify the categories of each compartment so you can quickly locate the pair you want. (This one is from Ikea.)
