Prep for Amazon's Prime Day to Score Big This Year

Prime Day is officially the new day for deals. If you're a Prime member, you don't even have to wait for the big day.

Mark your calendar for July 16 as this year's Prime Day, the day Amazon offers deep discounts on thousands of products exclusively for Prime members. The catch? You have to be a Prime member to reap the benefits.

Amazon Prime costs $119 annually and offers members exclusive shipping deals, including free same-day and two-day shipping, access to Amazon movies, books and music, grocery delivery services, and a host of other benefits. They're voice shopping technology is making shopping easier in homes and on their app, and a recent partnership with Whole Foods means more deals in-store and online.

Last year's event surpassed Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with hundreds of thousands of discounts. At the time, Amazon said the event was too big for 24 hours – so Prime members had 30 hours to shop. This year, we're expecting a full 36 hours, so you can imagine how many shoppers will stumble into some amazing deals. To fully benefit, sign up for a Prime subscription ahead of time here. Then, make your wish list and watch the daily sales leading up to the event. We'll be watching too, so keep an eye out for our editors' favorites.

You'll want to head to the daily deals page everyday between now and July 16 for a daily check at the deals leading up to Prime Day. Save money even on basic items that rarely go on sale, like shower curtains and standing fans. Last year Prime Members found deals organized by more than 20 of the most-shopped-for themes – from Pet Lovers to Gardeners to Home Chefs, Techies and more.

Amazon Tech plays a big part in Prime Day deals

Prime Day 2017 was the biggest sales event ever for Amazon devices in the U.S. and around the world, including record sales for Echo, Fire tablets and Kindle devices. Last year's most popular purchase was the Echo Dot, and Prime users who were already Echo owners nabbed extra deals by voice shopping Prime Day through Alexa.

You can practice now by asking, "Alexa, what are my deals?", use the Echo to play music, turn on lights, answer questions, and more.

Instant Pot is still a favorite

During last year's Prime Day, the top-selling kitchen item was an appliance that does it all: The Instant Pot DUO80. This multi-use pressure cooker has become a trending meal saver, and for good reason. It can be used to slow-cook meals faster than a crock pot, cook rice, steam, saute, make yogurt, and warm food, perfect for making dinner with minimal effort after a long day.
