Blocking off stripes with tape for DIY artwork is easy, but have you ever wondered how to get perfectly spaced lines? A little planning before you paint is all it takes for graphic canvas art that looks store-bought. Hang it up in any room of the house for an eye-catching statement piece.
What You'll Need
- Graph paper
- Colored pencils
- Painters tape
- Paintbrush or foam brush
Step 1: Plan Your Design
On a piece of graph paper, mark out your canvas design to scale. Plot where you want the stripes to go, then use colored pencils to mark each color. Coloring in your design ahead of time will help prevent any mistakes, like accidentally painting the wrong stripe.
Step 2: Transfer and Paint
Measure and mark with a pencil where each stripe should go, using your graph paper design as a guide. Place painters tape across your marks, making sure to extend the tape to the outside edges of the areas you'll be painting. Give each stripe two coats of paint.
Step 3: Remove Tape
Allow the final coat of paint to dry completely before removing the tape. Now you have a new decoration to display!
