How to Make a Wood-Burned Cheese Board

Use a woodburning tool to turn a purchased cutting or serving board into a work of art in just four simple steps.

Wood-burned home accents are all the rage. Try your hand at a simple, easy-to-do woodburning project -- make this DIY cheese tray! Start with a purchased wood board, sketch out your design (we went geometric, but loosely scripted text and doodles are beautiful, too!), and trace away using your woodburning tool. Once you've created your design, simply clean up any pencil markings with an eraser -- and voila! It's ready for use or gifting.

What You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Graphic designer ruler
  • Pattern
  • Wood cutting board
  • Metal ruler
  • Woodburning tool

How-To

  1. Draw a pattern onto your cutting board. We chose a simple geometric look.
  2. Warm up woodburning tool with the drawing tip on it.
  3. Using metal ruler to guide, follow drawn lines with the woodburning tool, taking time to darken the lines as you go.
  4. Erase any pencil lines still seen on the wood.
