What You'll Need

Equipment / Tools

  • 1 Scissors
  • 1 Foam brush
  • 1 Small bowl

Materials

  • 1 Large pendant drum shade

  • 1 1 to 1-1/2 yards fabric
  • 1 Decoupage medium

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Drum

Use scissors to cut designs from fabric, and lay them out on the drum to determine placement. It's best to find fabric with a background the same color as your shade so water color designs like this blend in nicely.

Note: We used Fall Flower Watercolor Bouquet by craftberrybush and Portadown Watercolor Floral by angiemakes, both printed by Spoonflower.

  2. Adhere Fabric

Once you have your placement set, dip foam brush into bowl with decoupage medium and apply to back of fabric. Flip fabric on the drum shade, and then lightly coat with another layer of decoupage medium. Use a flat decoupage medium (avoid one with a sheen). Repeat until drum shade is covered with desired amount of fabric. Let dry.

  3. Add Bias Tape

Use fabric glue to adhere bias tape to top and bottom of drum shade. First dab glue onto tape, then use your finger to spread glue across fabric. Press and hold firmly on drum shade, folding over the edges. Move slowly as you work around the drum, taking time to press the bias tape to the edges.

  4. Hang Shade

Once the glue has dried, you're ready to hang the drum shade. Thread the pendant light kit through the middle of the shade, according to package instructions. Screw in a lightbulb, and admire your hard work!
