Win Summer with These DIY Yard Dominoes

Feel like a kid again by making your own set of yard dominoes with a few simple supplies, and let the games begin.

Supplement classic yard games like cornhole and croquet with a larger-than-life version of dominoes! These colorful wood blocks are sure to bring out nostalgia and fun for young and old alike. We used dot stickers to mark out the numbers and sealed each domino to make them outdoor-friendly.

What You'll Need

  • Two 84-inch 2x4 wood pieces
  • Sanding block
  • Wood stain
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper towels
  • Dot stickers
  • Spar urethane

Step 1: Cut and Sand Wood Pieces

Cut wood pieces into 6-inch blocks. You should have 28 blocks—the number of dominoes in a standard set. Sand the ends of each block to remove sharp edges.

Step 2: Stain Wood

Stain wood blocks, making sure your work area is well-ventilated. Remove any excess stain with a paper towel. Allow to dry before repeating for each side of the blocks.

Step 3: Apply Dots and Seal

Apply colorful dot label stickers to indicate the numbers on each domino. You can find them at office supply stores. Seal with spar urethane to protect the stain and keep stickers from coming off in wet grass. Let dry for at least 24 hours before using.
