Blooming Beauties

Brighten your garden with pretty DIY planters. These terra-cotta pot updates are simple to create and absolutely eye-catching. They can instantly make your containers look like new.

Design #1: Etched Cactus

Materials:

  • Flowerpot and suacer
  • Green acrylic crafts paint
  • Pencil
  • Dremel tool
Instructions:
  1. Below the rim, paint pot green with acrylic paint; let dry.
  2. Use a pencil to draw design over paint; in this case, several small triangles a few centimeters apart.
  3. With Dremel, etch pattern into pot.

Design #2: Floral Decoupage

Materials:

  • Flowerpot and saucer
  • Floral wallpaper
  • Foam brush
  • Decoupage medium
  • White spray paint
Instructions:
  1. Cut a medium-size square of wrapping paper into two triangles.
  2. Apply decoupage medium over the exterior part of the flowerpot with a foam brush.
  3. With the narrow point facing down, cover pot in wrapping paper. Cut off excess paper at the top, and smooth out bubbles.
  4. Seal with two coats of decoupage medium, pasting any extra paper to the inside of the rim.
  5. Spray paint the saucer white; let dry.

Design #3: Geometric Pattern

Materials:

  • Flowerpot and saucer
  • White spray paint
  • Thin tape
  • Light blue spray paint, or other contrasting color
Instructions:
  1. Spray paint pot and saucer white; let dry.
  2. Tape off design. We used the thin tape to create several vertical, straight lines crossed with diagonals.
  3. Spray paint pot and saucer blue, or another contrasting color; let dry and peel off tape.
