Easy Crackle Throw Pillow

Through the Cracks

Every living room should have a one-of-a-kind statement piece, though it doesn't have to come at a jaw-dropping price. With our latest DIY project, you can make your own crackle throw pillow for your sofa, love seat, or bed. This resist-printing project brings a soft touch to the marble trend so your home is always in style. 


  • Pillowcase
  • Cardboard
  • Flour
  • Water
  • Mixing bowl and spoon
  • Gloves
  • Old credit card
  • Foam brush
  • Fabric paint
  • Iron
  • Ironing board


  1. Place cardboard inside pillowcase.
  2. Stir 1 cup flour with 1 cup water in a medium bowl.
  3. Pour mixture over front of the pillowcase and spread evenly with an old credit card.
  4. Let dry for 48 hours.
  5. Once dry, bend the fabric to form more cracks. 
  6. Use a foam brush to cover paste with black fabric paint. Make sure paint is pushed all the way into the cracks. 
  7. Let dry for 48 hours. 
  8. Once dry, remove cardboard. 
  9. Run water over pillowcase until you can peel away the paste and let dry. 
  10. Use an iron to heat-set the paint according to the paint manufacturer's directions.
  11. Wash by hand and let dry. Return pillow inside pillowcase.
