Add color and texture to a basic circular lampshade with this DIY neon design. To make it, paint lace fabric with neon paint, then apply it to the lampshade. The process couldn't be any simpler!
Although bold and bright, neon works well in many different rooms. From a drab entryway in need of a little light to a teen's bedroom that could use a touch of trend, neon decor is an easy way to make a statement. We used neon yellow for our shade, but feel free to experiment with other vibrant hues, such as pink, blue, and orange.
Lay your lace fabric flat on a surface. Then place the lampshade, curved side down, on the fabric. Roughly measure and mark with a pencil the amount of fabric you'll need to cover the shade.
Using your marked measurement as a guide, cut enough lace to wrap around the shade. For this step, cut wisely. You can always trim excess fabric, but you'll have to start over if you cut too little.
Protect your work surface by laying down a length of kraft paper. Roll neon paint evenly onto the fabric with a paint roller. Let lace dry on a clean, covered surface before moving on to the next step.
Once dry, flip the lace over. Liberally apply a fabric adhesive to the non-painted side. Working quickly but carefully, place the fabric onto the shade. Tuck edges in as you go. Let dry and trim excess fabric as needed. Place shade on lamp base.
