What You Need

  • 4 pieces of 1×4×24 (or longer)-inch kiln-dried high-quality poplar (Have the lumberyard cut the pieces to 2-5⁄8-inches wide)
  • Wood clamps
  • Wood glue
  • Table saw with 10-inch blade
  • Sandpaper
  • Paintbrush
  • Primer
  • Paint
  • Blind shelf supports

Step 1: Stack Wood

Stack the wood to create one piece that is 3×2-5⁄8×24+ inches; glue the pieces together and clamp the laminated board; allow glue to dry overnight.

Step 2: Cut Board

Use a table saw to cut the board into four 5½-inch-long pieces.

Using the pattern, cut each piece to shape using a table saw.

Step 3: Paint and Finish

Sand, prime, and paint each corbel. (We chose Sherwin-Williams #6767 Aquarium.) Use blind shelf supports to hang them as corbels on the wall, or use them as bookends.
