Hip to Be Square Necklace

This granny square is anything but antiquated. Crocheted with three colors of embroidery floss, it achieves eye-catching distinction in diminutive size, making it perfect for showing off on a pendant.

Materials:

Embroidery floss: one skein each of three colors Size 6 (1.8 mm) steel crochet hook 1"-square bezel pendant Industrial glue (such as E-6000 adhesive) Ball chain See crochet stitch basics here. Crochet abbreviations are at the end of instructions.

Crochet the Granny Square:

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1st hdc), 11 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3 (12 hdc). Fasten off. Rnd 2: With new color and using a sl st, join to any hdc. Ch 3, sc in same st. 1 sc in each of next 2 hdc. *(sc, ch2, sc) in next st, 1 sc in each of next 2 hdc, repeat from * twice more. Join with sl st to 1st ch of beg ch 3. Fasten off. Rnd 3: With new color and using a sl st, join to any ch 2 sp. Ch 3, sc in same st. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. *(sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch 2 sp, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, repeat from * twice more. Join with sl st to 1st ch of beg ch 3. Fasten off.

Finish the Necklace:

Tighten center circle and weave in loose ends. Spread a small amount of adhesive inside the square bezel and position crocheted granny square inside. Cut ball chain to desired length and thread bezel pendant onto chain.
