How to Make a Mini Piñata Advent Calendar

This DIY advent calendar is made with treat-filled piñatas. It's a bright and festive way to mark the holidays. Each is made from rolls of colorful and inexpensive crepe paper—the kind used for party decorations. Add number stickers to the top of each piñata, then string all 24 onto bakers twine or display them on a tree.

Materials

  • Cardboard tube
  • Crepe paper
  • Glue stick
  • Toys or candy
  • Embroidery floss
  • Fringe scissors (optional)
  • Number stickers

Step 1: Fill the Tubes

Cut a 2-inch-long piece from cardboard tube. Glue a piece of crepe paper over one end. Go with a classic advent calendar filling like candy, or try placing toys or small gifts in the tube. Then glue a piece of crepe paper to the open tube end. Glue a piece of embroidery floss to the tube for a hanger.

Step 2: Cut Crepe Paper

Cut a 32-inch-long piece of crepe paper; fold in half. Keep folding the piece in half until it measures 4 inches long. Cut strip in half lengthwise. Fringe-cut along one side of each folded strip; unfold. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with different colors of crepe paper.

Step 3: Wrap Tubes

Beginning at the bottom, glue fringed strips around tube. Trim to fit and cover floss ends. Alternate colors as desired. Apply number stickers to the top of each crepe paper-covered tube. Hang each tube as an advent calendar display or use as a garland on the tree.

You've just made your own advent calendar!
