Instead of glass ornaments, use distinctive elements from nature to decorate the Christmas tree. Here, pomegranates, lamb's ear sprigs, and eucalyptus garlands fill the tree. Vintage linens made into stockings and a collection of wooden candlesticks complete the room's natural rustic look.

Festive Christmas Tree

Fill your farmhouse Christmas tree with layers of adornments. Start with lights and burlap ribbon garland ($5, Michaels). Then add cotton boll stems throughout. Insert floral picks, letting them extend a few inches beyond the natural shape of the tree. Hang filler items like pinecones throughout. Use ornament balls all in one color, but use different shapes and textures for a consistent yet interesting look. Finish by adding the greenery filled cones and twine-covered ornaments.

Farmhouse Garland

For a rustic feel, skip the bright colors and sparkling accessories. Instead opt for farmhouse Christmas stockings in neutral fabrics and simple textures. Dress up the muted tones with a fresh DIY garland. Wooden ornaments and matte ribbons put the finishing touches on a sweet and subtle holiday design.

A rustic rooster sets the country vibe for this farm fresh Christmas tree. Felt barnyard animals, paper whirly rounds, corrugated barns, mini-embroidery-hoop farmhouse Christmas ornaments, and dishtowel stars lend a homemade feel. Beaded garland and red and gold ornaments complete the look.

Farmhouse Display

Dress up a dining room buffet with a wintery look that works throughout the holidays and into the new year. Layering a variety of heights, widths, and textures builds a beautiful display. A vintage window, a chalkboard, a wooden shadowbox, white shutters, and an etched mirror create a curated look. A small tabletop tree, a small garland, and wood accessories bring the outdoors into this holiday display.

Use greenery found in the backyard and cotton branches for a fresh and fragrant tablescape. Use vintage-inspired linens, such as a grain sack runner and cream cloth napkins ($10, Target), then top them with a small sprig at each place setting. A small animal figurine and antique silverware lend themselves well to the vintage style table.

Step back in time with a tree trimmed with felt-ball garland, salt-dough ornaments, dried orange rounds, and clip-on lights. The lights recreate an old fashion candlestick look, but they are easy to turn on with a remote control. Place the tree in a large wood crate ($13, Michaels) or tree collar.

Frosted Christmas trees bring a wintry feel to the dining room. Pair a taller tree with several smaller trees to spread the holiday glow throughout the room. Vintage linen runners and pillows dress up the table, which is topped with greenery and white ceramic houses. Red stockings and cotton bolls dress up the mantle for a cozy Christmas feel.

Vintage Table Setting

Scour yard sales and junk markets all year for old mercury glass vases and votive candle holders to dress up your farmhouse Christmas table. Antique platters make a great foundation to each place setting. If you can't find antiques to suit your style, shop for gold trim glasses and plates to complement the mercury glass pieces. Balance the glitzy votive holders with a wooden bowl and candle pillars.

Rustic Mantel Decor

Weathered pickets provide a canvas for glittery reindeer and a salvaged architectural element. The rustic piece sits on the mantel with a spray of greenery for a simple display. On the farmhouse Christmas tree, white and gold ornaments mix playfully with natural wood accent pieces. Burlap ribbons on the packages enhance the natural theme.

Vintage Christmas Trees

White Christmas trees offer a fresh take on tree decorating. For a vintage look, place the trees in galvanized tubs and cover the base with burlap. A black-and-white banner-style garland lends an old-time vibe. Vintage bingo cards pair with glittery silhouette ornaments. Reclaimed wooden snowflakes top the trees.

Farmhouse Christmas Office

No room is off-limits to Christmas decor. Becky Grunwald of The Other Side of Neutral's home office lends space for a decorated tree stuffed with a combination of tiny houses (originally tea light holders), black and white bulbs in multiple sizes, ribbon made from leftover dining room wallpaper, and books opened as if in the middle of being read. A vintage green toy truck is filled with a tiny Christmas tree and faux snow.

Simple updates give the bedroom a festive feel. Snowflakes cut from red vinyl give decorative plates a seasonal look. A tree-embellished burlap pillow mixes with red snowflake throw pillows. A red ribbon on the mirror and small urns with red ornaments tie the simple holiday style together.

"The girls' room is always a fun room to do," designer Caroline Bivens says of the bedroom her daughters share. "And it was fun to decorate it with them. We used pink and coral ornaments on the tree giving it just a bit of color," she says of the faux Tannenbaum with a blanket-wrapped base. A shelf above each bed holds bottlebrush trees, some vintage and some new.

Cut Your Own Tree

Forgo the giant traditional Christmas tree, for something that feels more authentic. Select a tree that's short, stubby, or maybe a little sparse (like Charlie Brown's tree). Set it in a basket or vintage wooden crate and dress it with a few silver bulbs. Skip the lights and just enjoy the simplicity—and fragrance—of a fresh cut tree.

Invite the beauty of the forest into your home for Christmas. A variety of owls, birds, fox, and woodland creatures make a beautiful menagerie on this Christmas tree. Complete the look with pinecone stars, metal bells, glass ornament, red ribbon, and white lights. Twine-tied packages wrapped in plaid and a burlap skirt finish the rustic vibe.

"The flocked tree brings a warmth and softness to the high contrast of the black bed frame," The Other Side of Neutral's Becky Grunwald says of the bedroom scene. "It's undecorated and provides Christmas ambience without going overboard." A flocked wreath tops a pair of photographs depicting barns from Becky's hometown. "I love to layer and decorate in odd-number groupings, so it just felt right to hang it here," Becky says.

Create a layered vignette using vintage frames, Christmas village houses, and bottlebrush trees. Scripting sideways around the outside of a mini evergreen wreath is an unexpected touch.
