$20 Christmas Artwork Hack

The secret to this inexpensive Christmas decorating idea is ribbon scraps. Use up the last bits of those gift-wrapping ribbons or buy the cheap spools at the end of the season. It doesn't take a long piece of ribbon to create a frame-worthy Christmas art display.

Materials

  • Various ribbons
  • Scissors
  • Razor knife
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Hot-glue sticks
  • 2 red matboard pieces
  • Picture frame
  • Pencil
  • Basic ornament template from Web or handdrawn

How to Make the Artwork

  1. Cut ribbons slightly longer than matboard width.
  2. Hot-glue ribbon to the matboard in horizontal stripes, leaving no matboard showing.
  3. Flip over matboard, and hot-glue ribbon edges to secure.
  4. Trace template onto second piece of matboard. Cut out and discard inner piece (you'll be using the silhouette).
  5. Hot-glue the silhouette mat to the ribbon side of the first piece of matboard.
  6. Frame the artwork.
