Ribbon scraps and an old frame combine to make an elegant piece of Christmas artwork that works in your living room, guest room, or entry way. It's incredibly easy and cheap Christmas decorating idea!


  • Various ribbons
  • Scissors
  • Razor knife
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Hot-glue sticks
  • 2 red matboard pieces
  • Picture frame
  • Pencil
  • Basic ornament template from Web or handdrawn

How to Make the Artwork

  1. Cut ribbons slightly longer than matboard width.
  2. Hot-glue ribbon to the matboard in horizontal stripes, leaving no matboard showing.
  3. Flip over matboard, and hot-glue ribbon edges to secure.
  4. Trace template onto second piece of matboard. Cut out and discard inner piece (you'll be using the silhouette).
  5. Hot-glue the silhouette mat to the ribbon side of the first piece of matboard.
  6. Frame the artwork.
