Sparkling Gold Star-Shape Christmas Tree Topper

Make this star-shape topper for your Christmas tree by decoupaging gold fabric to a cardboard form, then adding glitter.

What You Need:

Decoupage tree topper
  • 1/8 yard of silver or gold tone-on-tone cotton fabric
  • Scissors
  • 3-D cardboard star shape (available at crafts stores)
  • White glue
  • Water
  • Disposable plastic bowl
  • Small crafts paintbrush
  • Waxed paper
  • Fine iridescent silver or gold glitter

How to Make It:

  1. Cut the fabric into approximately 1-inch squares. In the small bowl, mix equal parts of white glue and water. Working over a piece of waxed paper, dip several pieces of fabric in the glue mixture and place onto the cardboard shape, overlapping edges of fabric to completely cover the cardboard.
  2. Press down fabric corners and smooth with wet finger. Use paintbrush to brush over the pieces with more of the glue-and-water mixture. Work on a small section at a time. Clipping fabric at the points will help wrap the fabric around these areas. When one side is covered, carefully turn the shape over and complete the other side. Let glue dry.
  3. Brush a thin mixture of the glue-and-water mixture over one side of the shape and lightly sprinkle with fine glitter. Repeat for other side. Let dry.
