No need to spend all day in the kitchen to impress guests this holiday season. Your dessert plate will stand out from all the rest with these sugar cookie dress-ups. No one will ever know it's packaged dough!
For sugar cookies with a minty surprise inside, divide one roll of sugar cookie dough in half. Roll out both halves and trim the excess from the edges. Place 12 Andes mints, evenly spaced, on one rolled-out dough half. Using a rolling pin, place the other half of dough on top of the mints. Seal the edges and cut into squares. Bake according to package directions. After cookies are cool, dip half of each cookie into melted dark chocolate.
To add a pop of festive color to your cookie plate, pour 1/3 cup red sugar sprinkles onto a plate and 1/3 cup green sugar sprinkles on a different plate. Form dough into balls and roll each ball through one of the colors of sprinkles until coated. Bake according to package directions.
To make sugar cookies flavored with a delicious blend of holiday spices, combine 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon cardamom, 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves, and 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger. Mix well. Pour spice blend over an entire roll of sugar cookie dough, and mix together until the spices are evenly distributed. Form dough into balls and bake according to package directions. If desired, drizzle cookies with powdered sugar icing.
For fruit- and nut-lovers, combine 1/2 cup dried cranberries; 1/2 cup chopped roasted, salted pistachios; 1 tablespoon orange zest; and 1 package sugar cookie dough. Mix together until cranberries, pistachios, and orange zest are evenly distributed throughout the dough. Form dough into balls and bake according to package directions.
To make irresistible pumpkin and chocolate sugar cookies, combine 1 roll sugar cookie dough with 1 cup dark chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice. Mix until chocolate chips and pumpkin pie spice are evenly distributed. Form into balls and bake according to package instructions. If desired, frost cookies with pumpkin cream cheese glaze. For the glaze, blend together 6 ounces cream cheese, 4 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons pumpkin puree, 2 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg.
