If I'm being honest, skincare is my obsession. As someone whose makeup routine is limited to concealer, blush, and mascara, it's very important to me to keep my complexion clear, balanced, and radiant. So, when new and buzzy ingredients make their way into the skincare world, I'm always willing to experiment. Enter: Watermelon. The beloved melon is one of the newest must-haves when it comes to skincare and for good reason. We all love it as the perfect summertime fruit that's sweet, refreshing, and super hydrating, but never did I think watermelon could be a secret to better skin.

To get to the bottom of the trend, I tapped Miami-based board-certified dermatologist Loretta Ciraldo, M.D., to get the scoop on the major skin benefits of watermelon. "You've probably heard that colored fruits and vegetables are laden with healthy vitamins and antioxidants and watermelon is no exception," she says. "The benefits of using watermelon in skincare include hydration since the fruit is 92% water, delivery of nutrients and amino acids, and antioxidant protection." So basically, there’s plenty of reasons to love watermelon in our diets and in our skincare routine.

When it comes to the formulation of watermelon in skincare, Ciraldo says it's generally infused with a juice or oil. Since the main benefit of this fruit is hydration, adding watermelon to your routine is generally safe for all skin types. I have combination skin, with an oily T-zone and I’ve not found its uber-hydrating properties to make me oily, but boy does it make my skin feel refreshed and bright. I like to think of it as an all-over highlighter for that lit from within glow I've always dreamed up.

The best part about trying out this skincare trend is it doesn't take a lot of time, effort, or money. No major investments here. Simply swap your cleanser, moisturizer, or even lip balm for a watermelon-infused formula and you'll see a boost in moisture practically immediately. Keep scrolling to find the seven watermelon-infused skincare products I can't stop obsessing over.

I'll never turn down a sheet mask because they're a great way to nourish and condition the skin with little to no effort. Simply open and leave it on for 20 minutes! The watermelon fruit extract in this mask, of course, rehydrates the skin, but it also helps soothe any inflammation and irritation making it great to use after a day in the sun.
