Maybe you forgot to apply your sunscreen before heading outside, maybe you applied a little too late, or maybe you simply missed a spot. Even though the statistics are scary (one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70), the truth is, sunburn still happens.

So what can you do to make your stinging skin feel better? The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends placing a cold, damp towel on mildly sunburned skin for 10 to 15 minutes every day it persists (a cool bath or shower can also provide relief). The AAD also recommends taking ibuprofen or aspirin to reduce swelling or discomfort.

You can also find sunburn remedies at the drugstore. Aloe vera is perhaps the most well-known sunburn treatment, and its soothing properties are being worked into after-sun lotions and sprays. We've rounded up five aloe-infused products to soothe and cool skin after spending time in the sun.

Jergens Refreshing Lotion Soothing Aloe

Typically known as a household name for your dry skin needs, it's no surprise to find that reviewers rave about the Soothing Aloe lotion from Jergens. This body lotion is formulated with hydrating botanical ingredients to calm down the redness and irritation skin experiences after a sunburn.

Remember, covering up and wearing SPF will help prevent sunburn from happening in the first place. But if you do see red, even simple measures like drinking a little extra water and applying aloe-rich products can help skin rehydrate and feel better.
