It’s time to finally shake off the dullness of winter and dive headfirst into the long days of summer. And what better way to do that than with a fresh, clean new hairstyle just in time for the weather to start heating up? Transition from your soft, spring look to a bold, ready-for-the-beach one that will keep you cool in the heat.

We took a look at a recent red carpet trend report created in part from InStyle and Hello Giggles Consumer Insights to gather our summer 2019 hair predictions. What we found was that this year we’re not simply adding a few blonde highlights to our hair, we’re trying out hairstyles that are both sensible and stylish, and often times a little edgy.

Whether you’re ready to chop it all off for the season, add some beachy waves and volume or simply find a more attractive way to keep your hair pulled back and tamed, these five summer hairstyle trends are sure to get you in the mood to call up your stylist and freshen up your look. We've also got some great ideas to perk up your hair color this year.

Blunt Bobs

If you’re looking for a shorter hairstyle that’s more manageable in the summer heat, a clean and simple blunt bob will certainly do the trick. Its sharp one-length cut differs from a traditional bob that usually has layers, to create an edgy summer look.

Whether you love them or hate them, bangs are back in style. Light, wispy bangs across the forehead or fringed bangs that frame the face can really enhance your look without having to do very much. Bangs are also a great accent to a simple ponytail or bun if you’re someone who pulls their hair back often to stay cool in summer.

Big Volume and Curl

Big volume and curls are creeping up on flat iron fans everywhere. We’re seeing hair going big this summer, whether that’s bouncy, tight curls or voluminous beach waves perfect for the pool. New curling wand designs are making it easy to achieve this summer hair trend, along with these tips to beat frizz for curly hair.

Sleek Ponytails

Making your ponytail sleek and slicked back creates a more professional or dressed up look. What was once a hairstyle meant for the gym and working outdoors, is now a fashionable, simple and classy look. Keeping your ponytail sleek will also prevent those pesky flyaways and frizz from humidity.

Natural Gray

This summer women everywhere will be ditching the dye and embracing their natural gray. You don’t have to hide your gray strands to look great, in fact, silver hair has become a huge trend in 2019. Incorporate your natural gray locks into your look to freshen it up in the simplest way.

These summer hair trends will take you from the office, to the pool, to an evening out seamlessly. Pair your new 'do with one of these summer nail polishes to complete your look!
