Your skin isn't the only thing that needs to be protected from UV rays. These styling products act like sunscreen for your strands and scalp (without weighing hair down or making it greasy).

Not only do your arms, legs, and face (eyelids included!) need a layer of SPF protection against the sun, so do your hair and scalp. Exposure to the sun's rays, summer heat, and pool water can dry out and damage strands (and if your hair is color-treated, spending hours outside can cause color to fade more quickly). But even if you don't have color-treated hair, frequent UV exposure coupled with chlorinated water calls for a bit of summer hair rehab.

To keep both untreated and chemically treated hair safe, give it the same attention as your skin—protect it with SPF and moisturize often. Here are five products to protect your hair and scalp this summer (and don't worry, they're nothing like slathering your head with sunscreen!).

Bumble and bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer

Just like with makeup primers, a heat-priming product can help your hairstyle last and last. Apply this to damp or dry hair before styling to guard against heat and UV rays during the day. If you have dry, damaged, or color-treated hair, add this pre-styler to your morning routine to prevent frizz and breakage without weighing it down.

Moroccanoil Protect and Prevent Spray

Mist this lightweight leave-in conditioner throughout the mid-lengths and ends of your hair prior to your usual daily styling. You’ll want to consider investing in this spray if your hair is color-treated since it's designed to shield against UV rays along with pollution, which means longer-lasting color for you.

Supergoop Poof Part Powder SPF

Protect your scalp without the greasy residue (and no more sunburned parts!). Supergoop’s 100 percent mineral SPF sprays on similarly to a dry shampoo; spray it on a few inches away from your part and blend it in with your fingers or a hairbrush. Also like a dry shampoo—you'll barely know it’s there. Now that’s a win!

These UV-protectant hair products will keep your newly styled and colored summer hair looking its best throughout every activity under the sun. So as you're applying sunscreen to your face and body, remember to safeguard your strands too—you'll be glad you did!
