How to Paint a Striped Shower Curtain
Glam up a basic drop cloth with bold stripes. This simple DIY project will be a bold (and budget-friendly) addition to your bath.
What You Need
- Plastic-backed canvas drop cloth
- Iron or steamer
- Measuring tape
- Painters tape
- Acrylic paint
- Foam roller
- Clip-on curtain rings
Step 1: Prep the Curtain
Spread drop cloth on a flat, sturdy surface. Use an iron or steamer to smooth any wrinkles. To maintain a taut surface, secure the drop cloth to your surface with painters tape.
Step 2: Measure and Mark
Starting at the top of the cloth, use a measuring tape and a pencil to mark off stripes. Our curtain has alternating thick and thin stripes, but feel free to mark stripes of the same width, uneven stripes, or a chevron pattern. To replicate our pattern, use painters tape to mask off 10-inch-wide stripes; paint stripes and let dry. To get the small accent stripe, use painters tape to mask off 3-inch-wide stripes in the bottom third of the wide stripes.
Step 3: Paint Stripes
With a foam roller, gently apply a thin coat of paint in desired color. Let dry. Repeat on the next stripe. Keep painting until the entire curtain is painted with stripes, letting each stripe dry in between applications.
Step 4: Add Hardware and Hang
Once completely dry, add clip-on curtain rings and hang on a shower curtain rod.
