BHG / Amelia Manley If you’re tired of flushing toilet paper down the drain—not to mention money—a bidet attachment can be a revelation. Aside from being a money saver, it will also make you feel shower-fresh after every bathroom trip, all without going through a full renovation like you might need for a full bidet. There are many features to consider when it comes to bidet attachments, says Tom Diciolla, owner of Restore Plumbing and Drain, Inc. and vice president of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) of Greater Chicagoland. “Some bidet attachments only work with cold water, which may be unpleasant for some users,” says Diciolla. “Other features that may be of interest include a warm water feature, heated seat, or even heated air dryer. Some units even offer a self-sanitizing feature. Decide what's important to you as the user.” To find the best bidet attachments, we put 20 options to the test right at home. Over the course of two weeks, testers installed the bidet attachments at home, keeping in mind how easy it was to install. Using a pre-determined methodology, testers scored their given model based on several categories: setup, ease of use, effectiveness, and value. Our Top Picks Best Overall: Omigo Bidet Attachment at Amazon Jump to Review Best Budget: Bio Bidet by Bemis Toilet Attachment at Amazon Jump to Review Best Splurge: Luxe Bidet Electronic Bidet at Luxebidet.com Jump to Review Best for Cold Water: Tushy Classic Bidet Attachment at Amazon Jump to Review Best for Hot Water: Bio Bidet by Bemis Toilet Seat at Amazon Jump to Review Best for Non-Electric: American Standard Aquawash Seat at Amazon Jump to Review Best with Seat Heater: Toto Electric Heated Bidet Toilet Seat at Amazon Jump to Review Best Handheld: Brondell Luxury Handheld Bidet at Amazon Jump to Review Best Overall Omigo Element+ Bidet Attachment 5 Omigo View On Amazon View On Myomigo.com Why You Should Get It: You’ll feel as fresh as you do after a shower each time you use the restroom.Keep in Mind: Heat function installation might be tricky depending on your bathroom’s layout. Some say that once you use a bidet, you’ll never want to go back to using regular toilet paper. We confirmed this is indeed true with the Omigo Element+ bidet attachment. During testing, we felt the Omigo+ offered a fresh-out-of-the-shower feel. The controls on the Omigo are simple as there’s one knob to control the heat and one for the spray, which alters between a powerful spray and a gentler one. There are two spray heads for the front and the back and we appreciated not having to make any awkward adjustments in the seat to get clean. The spray heads have covers, which makes cleanup easier, too. We did have some help during setup, but it took just 10 minutes to install even without looking at the instructions. It’s worth noting that to use the heat function on the Omigo, you have to attach one of the nozzles to a sink pipe. If your bathroom’s layout doesn’t permit that configuration, you could try a bidet attachment with just the spray function. Aside from the ease of use and its effectiveness, the unit also does a nice job of blending in with the toilet. Price at time of publish: $64 Product Details: Dimensions: Main body: 13.46 x 5.55 x 0.25 inches; Arm: 2.12 x 6.79 x 1.31 inches | Material: ABS plastic and ceramic core internal valve | Professional Installation: No | Cleaning Modes: Front wash, rear wash, and self-cleaning Better Homes & Gardens / Alyssa Kingham Best Budget Bio Bidet by Bemis Essential Toilet Attachment 5 Bio Bidet View On Amazon View On Walmart View On Biobidet.com Why You Should Get It: It’s easy to install, and the settings knob comes in two faux wood finish options that look sleek and stylish. Keep in Mind: The pipe connection is a bit unsightly. Overall, the Bio Bidet by Bemis Essential Toilet attachment is the best bidet attachment if you don’t want to invest too much in a unit. Clear-cut directions made it a cinch to install it on our own using just a wrench. Though you’ll want to remember to make sure you’ve turned the water off to prevent leakage. No electricity is needed to power the Bio Bidet, which we found easy to use. Just turn the knob to choose the wash setting (front or back) and select the strength of the spray. We liked how effective the Bio Bidet was at cleaning and found it went seamlessly into our daily routine. At this budget-friendly price point, you won’t find advanced features as you will on some of the more expensive bidets, but the ease of installation and simplicity of use makes it a great value. Price at time of publish: $36 Product Details: Dimensions: 13 x 16 x 3.5 inches | Material: Built-in brass valve, inlet, and braided metal water supply hose; customizable dark or light wood knob | Professional Installation: No | Cleaning Modes: Front and back Better Homes & Gardens Best Splurge Luxe Bidet Luxelet Electronic Bidet 4.8 Walmart View On Luxebidet.com Why You Should Get It: It was easy to install and features clear controls. Keep in Mind: You’ll need an outlet close to the toilet for installation. Although it’s a bit of an investment, we found that this Luxe Bidet style is one of the best bidet attachments to consider. Overall, we found the unit to be very easy to install thanks to clear-cut instructions and very few parts—all you need are some basic hand tools like a screwdriver and a wrench. This does run on electricity, so keep in mind that you will need a bathroom setup that allows for this. The slimline design makes it look just like a regular toilet seat, though the controls are on a flat panel on the left of the seat as you face it. Features include smart temperature control, multi-function nozzles, and a LED light that will make late-night trips to the bathroom more pleasant. The controls are laid out well for simplicity, so you’ll easily be able to choose between settings. While using, you’ll be able to choose between posterior mode, feminine mode, hot & cold massage mode, warm water wash, and warm air dry. Price at time of publish: $330 Product Details: Dimensions: Not listed | Material: E850 electronic bidet body, metal braided hose, and metal t-adapter | Professional Installation: No | Cleaning Modes: Posterior mode, feminine mode, hot & cold massage mode, warm water wash, and warm air dry Better Homes & Gardens / Alex Cabrera Best for Cold Water Tushy Classic 3.0 Bidet Toilet Seat Attachment 4.3 Tushy View On Amazon View On Hellotushy.com Why You Should Get It: It has intuitive controls and a self-cleaning nozzle.Keep in Mind: You might prefer one with a heating option. Part of what makes this pick by Tushy one of the best bidet attachments is that there’s no learning curve with it, even if you’re a bidet beginner. We found the controls to be very intuitive. There’s a knob for adjusting the water pressure and a toggle that redirects the angle of the spray. We found the Tushy Classic 3.0 Bidet Toilet Seat Attachment to be more effective than toilet paper alone. However, it was easier to adjust our own position on the seat rather than the angle of the spray. The manufacturer claims you can set the Tushy up in under eight minutes, but note that this does not include taking off your current toilet seat. You’ll need a wrench to install it and we found the bidet sockets to be a bit challenging. There’s no water heater attachment for the Tushy, so if you’re a newbie, this might come as a surprise. We appreciated the self-cleaning nozzle, which made cleanup much easier. You may want to consider getting a smaller cleaning brush, though, as a regular brush might be too big. Price at time of publish: $109 Product Details: Dimensions: 9 x 16.5 x 9 inches | Material: ABS plastic, stainless steel, vinyl, nylon, brass, and ceramic | Professional Installation: No | Cleaning Modes: Self-Cleaning, gentle to power wash, and adjustable spray angle nozzle Better Homes & Gardens / Anna Knief Best for Hot Water Bio Bidet by Bemis BB-1000 Supreme Seat 4.8 Wayfair View On Amazon View On Home Depot View On Biobidet.com Why You Should Get It: It’s easy to install and very effective. Keep in Mind: The drying function does warm up very quickly, so you’ll want to be mindful of it. This Bemis style is the best bid attachment to consider if you prefer a hot water option. It took just about 10 minutes to install it, thanks to easy-to-follow instructions. Though there is some trial and error with the nozzle angle, the hot water and hot air will make you feel very clean. It’s worth noting that the drying function heats up rather quickly, so do take care in using it. The auto function is fine on its own, but it’s worth experimenting with the nozzle to get the angle and spray strength that’s ideal for you. Price at time of publish: $499 Product Details: Dimensions: Not listed | Material: Not listed | Professional Installation: No | Cleaning Modes: Posterior, feminine, enema, and dry Better Homes & Gardens / Donna Freydkin Best for Non-Electric American Standard AquaWash 1.0 Non-Electric SpaLet Bidet Seat 5 Amazon View On Amazon View On Wayfair View On Home Depot Why You Should Get It: It’s easy to install. Keep in Mind: You might want one with more features. The beauty of this American Standard bidet attachment is that you don’t have to worry about hooking it up to an outlet to use it, though you still have access to important features like an adjustable sprayer. We found it to be easy and quick to install, thanks in part to a stencil that was very helpful in determining where to place the plate on the elongated toilet. Once that was in place, the seat slid in easily. The simplicity of this bidet is what won us over. It fits in seamlessly with the toilet lid, which closes slowly without slamming. We found it to be intuitive to use. It’s also easy to clean, thanks to a seat that removes easily as well as removable nozzle tips. Price at time of publish: $95 Product Details: Dimensions: 19.69 x 14.06 x 0.99 inches | Material: Polypropylene plastic | Professional Installation: No | Cleaning Modes: Adjustable spray volume and self-cleaning dual nozzles Better Homes & Gardens / Jodi Espinosa The 10 Best Showerheads to Give Your Shower an Instant Update Best with Seat Heater Toto K300 Washlet Electric Heated Bidet Toilet Seat 4.5 Amazon View On Amazon View On Home Depot View On Overstock Why You Should Get It: It has multiple useful features and is easy to use. Keep in Mind: It’s more expensive than other options. Installation was also time-consuming, and some of the necessary tools weren’t included. An ice-cold toilet seat is never pleasant, especially in the middle of the night. The Toto takes care of that with its heated seat feature. You will have to plug it in to take advantage of a warm tush, though, so you might need to purchase an extension cord if you do not have the right setup in your bathroom. Installation took about an hour and you will need a Phillips screwdriver and a drill to complete the task. Though it was securely on, we noticed that the seat didn’t line up completely, so this might annoy some more fastidious folks. The Toto’s got plenty of features and options, including heat settings for the seat and water, and a dryer. You can also adjust the placement of the wand and the water pressure. Plus, you can even program it with personalized settings for up to two people. If you’re new to the world of bidets, this might be a bit overwhelming to have so many options. However, we found it to be an easy-to-use and effective option overall. Price at time of publish: $708 Product Details: Dimensions: 15.0625 x 20.875 x 5.8125 inches | Material: Plastic | Professional Installation: No | Cleaning Modes: Front and rear warm water washing with adjustable temperature and pressure; oscillating or pulsating stream options Better Homes and Gardens / Jennifer May Best Handheld Brondell CleanSpa Luxury Handheld Bidet 4.5 Home Depot View On Amazon View On Home Depot Why You Should Get It: It’s a gentle option for postpartum use. Keep in Mind: It might take a bit longer to install depending on your toilet setup. Plus, a flexible water supply line is necessary. The Brondell CleanSpa is a simple, handheld sprayer that’s intuitive to use, so it’s one of the best bidet attachments to consider if you’re new to using them. A spring-loaded lever makes it easy to adjust the pressure of the spray—push harder for more intensity or ease up for a less powerful spray. It took us around 35 minutes to install the bidet on our own because of the particular toilet setup we were using, plus parts of the instructions were a bit unclear. However, the troubleshooting tips were helpful in getting everything up and running. We thought this would be a gentle yet effective option for bathroom trips during the postpartum period and that it could also be good for cleaning off cloth diapers. We felt very clean after using it and only needed a bit of toilet paper to dry off. Overall, we thought this bidet was a good value. It’s less expensive than other models, so you won’t get all the features they have. However, it’s also got a sleek chrome look that’s streamlined enough so it won’t interfere with or stand out from your bathroom. Just keep in mind that according to the instructions, a flexible water supply line is required. If you don’t have one that’s compatible, you’ll have to purchase one separately. Price at time of publish: $100 Product Details: Dimensions: 4 x 5.2 x 1.2 inches | Material: Stainless steel | Professional Installation: No | Cleaning Modes: Water pressure control for spray Better Homes & Gardens / Laura Miller The Bottom Line The Omigo Element+ Bidet Attachment nabbed the top spot on our best bidet attachments list for its easy installation and incredible effectiveness. It’s less expensive than some other styles as well and features two spray heads. Our Testing Process To find the best bidet attachments, we put 20 options to the test right at home. Over the course of two weeks, testers installed the bidet attachments at home, keeping in mind how easy it was to install. Using a pre-determined methodology, testers scored their given model based on several categories: setup, ease of use, effectiveness, and value. Many testers were first-time users. Setup was scored based on how long it took, as well as if the instructions were clear and easy to follow. Testers considered what tools were necessary, and if they were standard options you’d already own. Ease of use was evaluated in terms of how intuitive the model was, as well as how easy it was to navigate any settings or elevated features. Once they understood the settings, effectiveness was scored based on how fresh and clean testers felt, and how much toilet paper they may have needed to use alongside it. Testers determined value based on the price of the unit in comparison to the overall experience the tester had using it. It was also taken into consideration if they would recommend the product overall. What to Know About Bidet Attachments Before Shopping Dimensions When choosing the best bidet attachment for your home, dimensions are a key consideration. Since many models will have a part that sits parallel to your toilet, you’ll want to ensure there’s enough space between the toilet and the wall. You’ll also need to be aware of whether your current toilet features a standard or elongated seat and purchase a bidet attachment accordingly. Material The best bidet attachments are typically made of some type of heavy-duty plastic, just like a regular toilet seat. The handheld sprayer that made our list is made from stainless steel. Both types of materials are easy to keep clean and sanitary. Better Homes & Gardens / Jodi Espinosa Professional Installation Unlike a freestanding bidet which requires a spacious bathroom layout, Diciolla says that it’s often quite easy to install a bidet attachment to your existing toilet, whether you DIY it or call in a plumber. “You will want to verify that the existing toilet can accept the bidet and/or is compatible with it and verify your existing toilet is in good working order,” he advises. Cleaning Modes Some of the products on our best bidet attachments list are chock-full of features and numerous cleaning modes, but it really depends on your personal preferences. Ideally, you’ll want something where you can at least adjust the water pressure to your comfort level. However, many models include different wash modes, drying modes, and other settings as well. Other Bidet Attachments We Tested Kohler 76923-0 Puretide Toilet Seat Bidet The Kohler 76923-0 Puretide Toilet Seat Bidet was fairly simple to use and quite effective, though we would have preferred a warming function. It also took around 45 minutes to install because the instructions weren’t very clear for certain steps in the process, so setup took longer than it did for the others that made our list. ALPHA BIDET JX Elongated Bidet Toilet Seat When installing the ALPHA BIDET JX Elongated Bidet Toilet Seat, we had to resort to using some plumber’s tape to secure the connection, plus the instructions weren’t as clear as they could have been. However, once in place, we appreciated the numerous options for adjusting things like water pressure and the temperature of both the seat and water. If you’re a more advanced DIYer or have more patience, this might be a good bidet for you. Brondell S1400-EW Swash 1400 Luxury Bidet Toilet Seat Elongated Overall, the Brondell S1400-EW Swash 1400 Luxury Bidet Toilet Seat Elongated was effective. However, they noted the dryer didn’t work as well, so you’ll still need a good amount of toilet paper to finish the job. We also found that it splashed water around more than others. Better Homes & Gardens / Laura Miller Your Questions, Answered How do you install a bidet attachment? A bidet attachment connects right to your existing toilet. You’ll likely need some basic tools, like a wrench or screwdriver, so you can remove the regular toilet seat and install the bidet attachment. During testing, we installed all of the bidet attachments either alone or with the help of a partner at home. You can likely do the same, but it all depends on the type of bidet attachment and your comfort level, says Diciolla. “Bidet attachments will require you to connect water lines and sometimes electric,” says Diciolla. “If you have not done this before or are not comfortable doing this, then it's better left to a pro.” He recommends contacting your local chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) to find and hire vetted plumbers. Are bidet attachments sanitary? Overall, the best bidet attachments are sanitary to use. “Bidet attachments draw water from the same water supply that supplies your faucets,” Diciolla says. “Each bidet attachment should come with a minimum of a one-way check valve to allow water to enter the bidet, but not allow it to go back to your water supply and possibly contaminate it.” If your device doesn’t come with one, Diciolla said you can — and should — add one for sanitary purposes. “Some bidet attachments offer features that self-clean and/or sanitize after each use, which can be beneficial and save a lot of time vs having to clean the small parts of the unit,” he says. Can you add a bidet to an existing toilet? A freestanding bidet can be difficult to add to an existing bathroom due to size and layout constraints. A bidet attachment, on the other hand, can be installed on your current toilet without too much trouble. It’s one thing if you’re adding a bidet to a home while it’s under construction, but If you want a bidet in your existing home, it could mean a major renovation for your bathroom. “Generally you would need to renovate the entire bathroom to allow the space and needed mechanicals to accommodate a bidet,” says Diciolla. A bidet attachment is therefore not only easier to install, but it’s also much more economical. “Also, in the event that you decide it's not for you, it can be easily removed and returned back to a normal toilet seat,” he says.
