Hilary has worked in digital media for for seven years. After graduating from the Missouri School of Journalism in December 2014, she began her career as a Fact-Checker at The Nation, then moved on to a role as the night editor at The Cut. From there, she was a full-time staff writer at Vanity Fair for nearly three years. After that, she served as the weekend editor at ELLE.com for two-and-a-half years, alongside her full-time freelance writing and communications/social media consultant work.

She is now the Pets editor at The Spruce at Dotdash Meredith.

Experience

Hilary Weaver (Aver) received her Bachelor degree in journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism in 2014, after serving as an editor on a local city publication.

She began her career as a fact-checker on topics including reproductive rights legislation, activism, and feminism. She has been published in several legacy titles and been a regular guest speaker in college journalism classes on her topics of expertise: politics, covering controversial legislation, queer culture, and celebrity culture.

Hilary has served as an editor across several New York City-based brands and has manned national sites, including The Cut and ELLE.com alone as the night and weekend editor, respectively. She now enjoys working with the Spruce Home Pets Crafts team at Dotdash Meredith.
