As a freelance contributor, Debra has collaborated with Better Homes & Gardens and Country Homes, as well as editing and consulting for brands and clients through her company, GoldenTree Communications.

After co-authoring “Hunger in the Heartland,” Debra produced and wrote the 30-minute accompanying documentary broadcasted on the Iowa PBS affiliate.

She often combines her editorial background with her personal growth knowledge to develop workshops and online classes. Debra is also co-director for the Story Summit’s Writer School, offering courses on the craft and business of writing and publishing.


Debra Engle attended Iowa State University, graduating with a degree in Journalism and English. She received a Masters in Fine Arts, Creative Non-Fiction Writing, from Goucher College.
