Carla is an avid recipe contributor to Better Homes & Gardens, The Kitchn, Food Network, Southern Living, Food and Wine, The Chew and many others. She is most known for her time on Bravo’s “Top Chef,” “Top Chef: All Stars,” judging contestants on Holiday Baking Championship, and her 7 years of co-hosting ABC’s Emmy award winning “The Chew.” As a trained chef, she has worked in several professional restaurant kitchens and is an accomplished author with numerous cookbooks.


Carla Hall has devoted her career to the culinary world. She graduated from Howard University’s Business School with a degree in accounting. After graduating from Howard University, she got her first job as an accountant. During that time she found herself extremely unhappy and started modeling on the side. Carla spent a lot of time in Paris modeling, and really became interested in the food scene. She began cooking more frequently for her friends and diving into any cookbook she could get her hands on, Paris is where her love for food blossomed.

Carla has become a chef, a best-selling author of numerous cookbooks, a television personality, and a motivational speaker for food activism and cultural food acceptance. She is most known for her time as a competitor on Bravo’s “Top Chef” and “Top Chef: All Stars” while sharing her love and philosophy of food. Carla has also co-hosted the award-winning daytime program “The Chew” for over seven years, and by being authentically herself, she won over loyal and passionate fans. Now, you’ll find Carla hosting “Holiday Baking Championship” on Food Network alongside Duff Goldman, Nancy Fuller, Lorraine Pascale, Bobby Deen, and Jesse Palmer.

As an active motivational speaker, Carla spends a lot of her time working for numerous charities and not-for-profit organizations. Carla strives to communicate the way food connects us all together through her cooking, daily interaction with others, and her work.


Carla Hall obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at Howard University in Washington, DC. After graduating from Howard University she furthered her education in culinary arts and studied at L’Academie de Cuisine in Maryland.
