In case you missed the memo, the trendiest grain out there right now is quinoa. Yes, it has too many vowels but it's not pronounced "qui-no-a", it's "keen-wah". Quinoa is a tiny whole grain that's getting lots of love thanks to it's high protein content. It actually contains all the essential amino acids making it a complete protein, a rarity in the grain world. As exciting is quinoa is in the food world, it's flavor is pretty bland. Quinoa's lack of flavor is what makes it so good to add to foods to boost nutrition. Food websites are loaded with recipes using quinoa, and food manufacturers are getting in on the trend by introducing products with quinoa as an ingredient. I like to use quinoa as an oatmeal replacement. Stir in some jam and top with some bananas, really good. Since it's taken over the world and you can find quinoa everywhere, try it at home. Use it as a fun alternative to rice.
