Be the best pumpkin carver on your block with our no fail tips for pumpkin carving. First, you'll need to clean out your pumpkin. We cut a circle in the bottom of our pumpkin to give it a flat base and use an ice cream scoop to get rid of all the messy bits. Next, we're gonna transfer our pattern. Tape the pattern to your pumpkin. Make sure you've picked a good side of your pumpkin to carve and smooth out the pattern as best you can. To get the basic outline of your pattern, go over the edges with a pin tool. Poke the tool along the pattern lines about an 8th of an inch apart. Perfection isn't necessary. Now, you're ready to carve. For basic carving, we're using a keyhole saw. Use an in and out motion and keep the tool perpendicular to the pumpkin. To pop out the shades, use your carving tool. Time to admire your work. A small clay tool will come in handy if you need to touch up any other rough spots. The opening at the bottom of your pumpkin makes it frightfully easy to set your carved masterpiece aglow.
