Two-Ingredient Homemade Tortillas Are So Easy!
You only need two ingredients to make homemade tortillas! Don't delay -- this must-try Mexican favorite is simpler than you think.
How to Make Homemade Tortillas. Mix 2 cups masa harina (corn tortilla flour) with about 1 1/4 cups water. Add just enough water until dough is texture of Play-Doh. Cover and let rest 15 minutes. Divide dough into 12 portions; roll each to the size of a golf ball. Shape and cook one tortilla at a time so it doesn't dry out. Flatten ball into a disk. Place between 2 pieces of plastic wrap. Use a tortilla press or rolling pin to flatten to a 6-inch circle. Use the plastic wrap to wove the tortilla to your fingers; peel away plastic wrap. Pat the tortilla back and forth between your hands until it becomes less sticky. Then gently lay it on a medium-hot ungreased griddle or skillet. Make the first flip when steam appears. Turn again once it starts to brown. You'll flip it 3 or 4 times. On the third flip, the tortillas should start to puff up (OK if it doesn't). You can assist the tortilla puffing by pressing on areas that have not risen yet. Flip again until both sides are lightly toasted. More Mexican recipes at BHG.com
