Homemade Whipped Cream: Three-Ingredient Perfection

Improve every dessert in your repertoire -- cakes, cookies, brownies, and more -- by topping them with homemade whipped cream. It only takes 3 ingredients!

Have you ever made homemade whipped cream? You'll be surprised at how easy it is. And once you've sampled it, you'll realize that canned whipped cream doesn't even come close to the creamy texture and delicious flavor of the real thing. Pour one cup of whipping cream into a chilled mixing bowl. Add two tablespoons of sugar, and a half teaspoon of vanilla. If you'd like to make a flavored whipped cream, add your flavoring now. For instance, make a spiced whipped cream by adding 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger. Using an electric mixer, beat the cream until it thickens and forms soft peaks. It's important not to overbeat whipped cream. It can turn into butter quickly. Whipped cream is wonderful spooned over fresh berries, ice cream sundaes, fruit pies-- the sky is the limit. If you don't serve the whipped cream immediately, cover it tightly and keep it chilled for up to a day.
