Trend Spotting with BHG: Gold
The latest trend in jewelry and fashion comes to home fashion and is easy to DIY.
I am loving how the last 10 years of silver is now trending toward gold. It started on the runway and now it's in everything from fingernail polish to home décor. But you don't have to spend a pot of gold to get this gilded trend. It's super easy to DIY. Take a plain black tote bag, add some gold tape. Now, it's a date night worthy tote-- simple and gorgeous. Wrap gold cord or ribbon around the basic pillow for an instant update. I love the designer look of a black lampshade with a gold interior, but you can make it yourself so easily. Just buy a black lampshade and a gold leaf kit. There you go. For just a few bucks, you can take your next dinner party up a notch. Go to the thrift store, buy some plain white mismatched China. From the hobby store, get a few gold paint pens and have a field day. Just make some basic designs on the white China and there you go- gilded and fabulous. Or, use gold acrylic paint to add shine to stemware. While you're at the thrift store, grab a wooden candle stick and a serving dish. When you get home, spray paint that candle stick gold, glue it to the bottom of the serving dish and there you go, cake stand. You don't need a lot of shine to earn a gold star in the style department. Just use some left over scraps of ribbon around the edge of a lampshade. There you go-- subtle fashion. When it comes to gold plated fashion, whether it's on you or in your home, the key is to not overdo it. A little bling goes a long way.
