How to Make Lemon Lime Bars
Watch as we show you how to make lemon bars that are bursting with alternating layers of fresh lime flavor.
Today, we're making sweet and tangy Lemon Lime Bars. To begin, combine flour, powdered sugar, cornstarch and salt. Using the pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. This texture is the secret to a flaky, butter crust. Transfer the mixture to a baking pan that has been greased in line with parchment paper. This is a very dry crust so don't be alarmed by its appearance. Pop that into a 350 degree oven and bake for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, combine the eggs, sugar, half and half and flour. Mix that together to combine then, divide the mixture into two bowls. To one of the bowls, add lemon peel and lemon juice. Stir that to combine. In the other bowl, add the lime peel, lime juice and green food coloring and stir that altogether. Remove the crust from the oven and while it's still hot, pour over the lemon filling. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until set. Time to add the lime filling. Remove the pan from the oven and pour the lime filling over the lemon filling. This will bake for an additional 10 to 12 minutes until it set. Allow the bars to cool on a wire rack before cutting. If you wish, you can dust it with a little powdered sugar and sprinkle with lime and lemon peel. Easy to make and simply delicious, these bars are sure to be a favorite at your next picnic or potluck.
