How to Make Hot Chocolate
Warm up with this classic cold-weather drink. We show you the best boil to get a steamy, delicious cup of homemade hot chocolate.
Real hot chocolate is as simple as melting milk and chocolate together. The secret is bringing the melt to a boil so the chocolate melts completely, creating a smooth, creamy texture. In a saucepan, bring the milk just to a boil before adding chocolate pieces. We like to use morsels because they melt evenly and quickly, but you can chop a chocolate bar, too. Keep whisking the milk and chocolate and bring it just back to a boil. Our test kitchen has found this step as they key to ensuring super smooth hot chocolate. Continuous whisking helps the chocolate melt quickly and prevents it from scorching. Now, all that's left to do is pour the hot chocolate into mugs then sit back and savor the sweetness.
