French Toasted Sausage and Pear Hot Dogs
-Today, we're whipping up a fun, sweet, and savory spin on French toast. We'll start by browning chicken sausage in hot oil. Remove the pieces and transfer to paper towels to drain then wipe out the skillet and set it aside. Meanwhile, let's make our egg mixture. In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs half in half, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set that aside while we assemble our French toasts. For this recipe, we love Hawaiian style hotdog buns. They have a little sweetness, which gives our French toast great flavor. To each of our buns, we'll add a slice of cheese then fill with chicken sausage and pear slices. We love pear, but apple slices would taste great too. Close the buns and use wooden toothpicks to secure. Now that everything is assembled, it's time to toast. While a little butter melts in the skillet, dip 3 of the filled buns in the egg mixture. Add them to the skillet. Cook until well browned about 3 to 4 minutes on each side. Remember to remove the toothpicks before serving. With a big pour of really good maple syrup, this is one sweet and savory treat worth waking up for.
