" Nothing says holiday like a wonderful scent of gingerbread in your home. Oh, I've got a great recipe for you, Gingerbread Mitten Cookies. Aren't they beautiful? And they're super simple. I'm Sandra Lee, and I just got done baking off some beautiful cookies in the oven that I am gonna set here to cool off. But before I decorate those, I wanna show you some great tricks with things that you can use right out of your own pantry. Now, let's talk about coconut, nothing so snow like coconut on your dessert. Take coconut right out of the package, put in your food processor, and look what you get? Beautiful little snow! Now, with that coconut, I want you to take just a plastic bag, and put it right in here. Now, to this, I wanna add just a little bit of food coloring. I've already added green and yellow here. So, I wanna make a pretty pink with just a couple drops of red. Now, close up your bag, and then work that color through your coconut, and you can see how quickly it changes color. Remember all these recipes are on bhg.com/recipe, so check that out. And that is the perfect color. Now, let's talk about icing because you need something to adhere that beautiful coconut onto your cookies. I like to use store bought pre-packaged icing, and by the way, if you wanna dull it up, just use a teaspoon of extract, your favorite extract, vanilla, maybe peppermint, whatever you want. Just make sure that you stir it in completely. Now, with the plastic bag; here is a great trick, open up a baggie, and you're gonna make a funnel out of your finger, inside out with the baggie, and there is your hole, right there. Now, with a spoon, I want you to come in here and scoop out your icing, and put it right into your bag using your fingers to clean the spoon off, just like this. Now, close it up. It's nice and clean. Now, I'm gonna snip the tip, and I like to start with a smaller snip. You can always cut more later, and look, you created your own pastry bag. Pretty smart! Now, take it over to your cookies, and all you're gonna do is just go back and forth with your icing to create the bottom of the mitt. And then, I want you to pipe a line across {time=0:02:30] just like this. You can do 3 lines, you can do 4 lines. You can do anything that you want, and maybe the top here. Now, it's time for that wonderful coconut. I'm gonna start off with the pink for the base of my mitten, and just put a little bit like so. Notice that I put wax paper underneath my cookies because that may clean up a breeze. Now, I wanna add just a second color here, maybe I'll go with the yellow, and the trick here is to put on a little more than you think you need because you can always shape the cookie off later, and everything will look perfect. Now, I'm just gonna finish this up here. You could see how beautiful they are when they're done, and everybody here at bhg.com wants to wish you a very happy, healthy, and fun holiday season. Ba-bye!"
