Looking for an easy way to beautify your home? Better TV's Mrs. Fixit will show you how to make a simple vine trellis.

[0:00:09] ... Climbing vines add great dimension to any garden, but if you're looking to add interest beyond the traditional trellis, I have some ideas for you. Check your local garden center for interesting structures specifically designed for climbers like these metal pyramid. Train the vines by tying them off with some sewing thread or a few twist ties. With a little coaxing, vines will follow any path you put them on, so your choices are only limited by your imagination. Beyond the garden center, check the garage. And old ladder or stepstool is a great idea. When trained, the vines will go in and out of the supports and you can set smaller pots on the steps for a cute display. This will also work with an old chair or a kitchen stool. How about old garden tools? A rusty old rakes settled into a garden with greenery climbing up the handle would be great conversation piece. If you have a an old crib in your attic, pull out one of the side supports and lean it against the house for a vine support that will remind you of your little ones. If you're working in a container, consider an old grill grate for a pot size trellis. I'm Mrs. Fixit, and it's just that simple. ...

Mrs. Fix It shows us how to hang a wall trellis so that plants aren't too crowded.

[0:00:00] ... A wire trellis is a great way to cover a wall with the climbing vine while keeping it from becoming invasive to your home. Start by marking grit on the wall in chalk. You want the height ...
[0:00:33] ... number 18 galvanized wire from your local garden center to wire the trellis. Starting with the top-left corner, thread the wire through the eye. Run it down to the bottom-left corner and then work your way from left to right and up and down. Wire all the vertical support. Then, repeat this process for the horizontal line. When you're finished, cut the wire of both ends so you'll have about a 3-inch tail then wrap it around itself to secure the end. Gently guide your plant under the trellis, securing it within twist tie or a thread if you need to. Now, let your plant do all the work and in ...

String a simple strand of fishing line from the ceiling to help your climbing plants grow to new heights. The right string and the right plant will combine to produce spectacular results as your vines go up, up, and away.

[0:00:02] ... To take a climbing vine to new heights, try this! Fishing wire, that's all it takes to create an invisible trellis, that gives you twining vines that foothold they need in order to climb, but just tie your fishing wire to a hook in the ceiling and then you'll just let it dangle down. And the plant will actually detect the wire's presence and will just grab on and start climbing. I mean, nature is really amazing. Now, if you want you could tie a sinker to the bottom of the fishing line to make it nice and straight, but you really don't have to do that. This is a great tip to use with morning glories, passion flowers, or mandevilla. Now, a bit of interesting trivia about these twining vines, certain species will only grow in certain directions, so if you've got a plant that grows in a counter-clockwise curl, you won't be able to train it to grow clockwise. It just won't do it. It's really weird. So test that on your own and create and easy invisible trellis that will take your plants to new heights. ...
