Hi, I'm Gayle Butler, editor in chief of Better Homes and Gardens magazine. I'd love to hear your ideas, your feedback, and your answers to each issue's "Questions of the Month." Farther down this page, you'll find a spot to e-mail our deputy editors.

From rearranging furniture as a kid to working with an interior designer in college -- and more than 13 years at home magazines -- I've always had a passion for design and for translating decorating ideas for real life. As senior deputy editor of home design, I can indulge those passions every day. My own home is always a work in progress, as well as a practical "sounding board" for the ideas we develop for the pages of our magazine.

I'm wild about all things food! I learned the basics of cooking as a 4-H'er growing up in Tennessee and was an award-winning biscuit maker at state fairs and cook-offs. My love of cooking led me to major in nutrition and journalism at the University of Tennessee. As deputy food editor of Better Homes and Gardens, I get to create mouthwatering photos and share yummy ideas with readers. (And I still make a mighty delicious biscuit!)

As deputy editor of gardens and outdoor living, my passions are gardening and landscaping; they have been ever since I got my degree in horticulture more than 20 years ago. These days, family and career keep me pretty busy, so gardening has to fit into my everyday life. This balancing act gives me insight into "real life" gardening that I try to pass on to readers.
