White Flower Farm Hosta Red October

0

Hosta Red October Rhubarb-red, upright stems (properly petioles) support glaucous green lance-shaped leaves in this exciting new Hosta, the best of a new group of red-stemmed varieties. The flowering stems are also dark reddish purple. Lave...nder flowers bloom late, although not quite as late as October. The genus Hosta has 70 species, all of them from China and Japan, and hybridizers have produced hundreds of exciting crosses. Hostas have many handsome leaf colorations and lavender or white Lily-like flowers, which show between late spring and late summer on graceful stalks. Plants like a moist location but also tolerate dry shade; they have thrived for more than 30 years under a row of Sugar Maples near our house. (Evenly moist soil is required in the South and West.) Please note: Because Hostas are grown primarily for their foliage, the figure we give for height represents the leaves, not the flowers. read more
