Meet the Blooming Butterflies series of hedge Buddleia, so styled because they are wider than they are tall, suitable for growing as a low hedge in the garden, along the driveway, and in meadow settings. Each member of this free-flowering, ...very bushy series of plants is named for an American butterfly, and we would like to introduce Blue Morpho to you! Nearly twice as wide as it is tall, Blue Morpho is clothed right down to the ground in dense branches and large, lovely leaves. It stands just about 32 inches high, but quickly spreads 5 feet wide -- the ideal size for a hedge, foundation or driveway planting, or middle-of-the-border beauty. From midsummer through mid-fall, Blue Morpho is set all over with long, elegant bloom wands of lilac-pink to powder-blue. This is the most floriferous of all the Blooming Butterfly Buddleias, and you will enjoy the sweet scent and rich color of these flowers both in garden and vase. And it needs no special care beyond a strong pruning in early spring -- cut it down to andfrac13;rd its original size in late February/Early March, and watch it return even more dense and floriferous than before! The Blooming Butterflies introduces a whole new habit for Buddleia davidii, and Blue Morpho really shows off the new horizontal branching and hedgy look. Find a home for it in your sunny garden this season! Zones 5-9. read more
