Shizuoka located in the center of Japan, is an ideal tea growing region with an average annual temperature of 60°F. With the excep...tion of the northern mountainous region, the prefecture has a mild maritime climate and snow is rare on the plains. Teas from the prefecture will vary in taste based upon the season of the year, elevation, and method of steaming the leaves. The Art of Sencha, also referred to as 'The Art of Steeped Tea' was introduced into Japan in the second half of the seventeenth century. Most of the people responsible for this were refugees, monks and intellectuals from China, who fled their country after the fall of the Ming dynasty in 1644. Tea scholars have stated that Sencha, as a tradition of drinking tea, has contributed highly to developing the aesthetic sensibilities of the Japanese, similar to ‘Chanoyu’ or the 'Powdered Tea Ceremony'. read more

Our peppermint comes from the northwestern United States. The pure, moist mountain air of the spring and early summer growing seas...on gives this peppermint some of the highest volatile oil counts of any member of the mint family. Generally the second cut (takes place during mid August) is the most flavorful, coolest, and most pungent. Peppermint is an herb and contains no caffeine. It has been reported and written that peppermint sweetens the breath and calms the digestive system, plus it helps heartburn, stomach ache and nausea. An interesting and tingling way to use peppermint is to place a handful of peppermint leaves in your bath water which will lower your body temperature. It is perfect for cooling fevered skin or after working on a hot summer's day. read more

Artisan Quality Pure Leaf Teas Fresh Brews 80 Cups Certified Kosher by EarthKosher Origin: Anhui Province, China. Also known as 'M...eigui Hongcha', Rose Petal Black is a blend of the popular Chinese black tea 'Keemun' and fragrant red rose petals. Robust Keemun: The small leaf tea from Qimen county of Anhui province is best known as the main ingredient for the popular 'English Breakfast' blends. Red Rose Petals: Although there is a whole universe of rose varieties and flavors, the ideal for combining with Keemun are the red roses native to Qimen county. They have a distinct, sweet, cooling aroma that lends great balance to the blend. Pairing: Rose Petal Black pairs well with slightly spicy and oily foods. It also makes a good iced tea. One of our favorite recipes is to prepare a sauce from Rose Petal Black and pour it over vanilla ice cream. Best Season: Late Summer is ideal for blending Rose Petal Black. This is when the flowers are in full bloom and at their most fragrant. Since it is a hardy black tea, it holds up well over the months. The Tao of Tea: Like the Tao, the art of tea is universal. We began our work with tea in 1997 to be a connecting thread for tea culture. Practicing the art on a daily basis in our teahouses in Portland, Oregon, we are a group of tea enthusiasts from different backgrounds and cultures. We travel, learn, take delight and seek to offer pure leaf teas with great flavor, artistry and soul. Our reward comes through actions that help people's lives, sustain the art of tea and promise a healthy environment. read more
