About the Designer Timo Sarpaneva Finland (1926 - 2006) Timo Sarpaneva, the grandson of a blacksmith, was known for his experimentation with different materials, such as glass, porcelain, cast iron, fabric, and steel. A master craftsman of ...glass, porcelain, cast iron, and graphic art, he helped build the reputation of Finnish design since the 1950's. He has held a variety of positions in the world of academia and has been honored with many awards. He designed the current Iittala trademark, and his work can be seen in art galleries and design museums around the world. The Sarpaneva Steel plates, launched in 1971, are classic design icons, objects that enhance the interior of the home as well as the dining table. With the Sarpaneva Steel plate, you decide its use, at the dinner table as a charger, as a tray for fruit, champagne glasses or candles.
