Colombian coffee, often considered the standard in the Americas, varies widely in quality. To keep up with demand, many brands are blended with dozens of crops from different estates and harvests. This Organic and Fair Trade coffee is from ...only one cooperative. Fondo Paez Cooperative was founded in 1992, with the primary goal of resuscitating indigenous agricultural knowledge and culture, suppressed through centuries of colonization, conflict and globalization. They are Paez, or Nasa, people, the largest indigenous group in Colombia, and their ancestral lands spread along the Cordillera Central (Colombian Andes) around Cauca. Their farms are beautiful representations of diverse agro-forestry, incorporating cash crops such as coffee, sisal and tropical fruits with table crops and nitrogen fixing plants for the health of the soil. The cooperative sees organic, fair trade coffee as a means to bring stability to their lives and local economy, while disengaging their community from illicit crops. The beans produce a classic Colombian coffee. One taste of this well-rounded cup, with a perfect balance of roast and acidity, will remind you just why Colombian coffee came to be so esteemed around the globe. Certified Kosher by Vaad ha Kashruth of Springfield, Massachusetts. Whole Bean Coffee. read more
