This rare honey, with a gentle nose of sugar and menthol, is made by San Giuliano. San Giuliano has belonged to the Marchesi Caste...llo di San Giuliano for over 800 years. Near to Siracusa, on the east coast of Sicily, on a 22 acre estate, San Giuliano boasts some of the most fertile soil in all of Sicily. It is particularly suited to growing citrus fruits. Trees planted in the early 1800s are still bearing fruit! This Eucalyptus honey has a sweet taste and fresh mint aroma, clearly denoting a strong presence of eucalyptus pollen. Its color is pure amber. Then it quickly crystallizes, turning a darker color. Since this is a natural, raw honey, it will crystallize over time or at cooler temperatures. To return this honey to a liquid state, simply heat the jar in warm water, stirring to smooth the texture. No honey should be fed to infants 12 months or younger. read more

Latteria Perenzin has been synonymous with cheese-making excellence since founder, Domenico Perenzin, started the business in the ...early 1900s. Still a small family-owned artisanal dairy located in the Veneto region of Northern Italy, Perenzin is currently run by Domenico's great-granddaughter, Emanuela Perenzin, and her highly-skilled cheesemaker, affinatore, and master cheese taster husband, Carlo Piccoli, who directly oversees all cheese production. Emanuela and Carlo pour their heart and soul into each and every hand-crafted cheese they produce, and their passion for reinventing traditional cheeses has been recognized at every major international cheese show. Vecchio Dolce (the old sweet) is the most recent addition to Perenzin's award-winning line of artisanal cheeses. Made with cow's milk and aged for one year, Vecchio Dolce is styled after Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano, but has an extremely sweet finish with a long lasting aftertaste that harkens the flavors of the unique Venetian pasturelands. Keeping with wines of Veneto, a big, bold wine like Amarone della Valpolicella or a Ripasso Valpolicellas pairs extremely well. A beautiful table cheese on its own, Vecchio Dolce is also perfect when drizzled with honey, especially chestnut. Tart fruit and jams make a welcome accompaniment and further enhance the sweet character. read more

When determining whether to use Part Skim or Whole Milk mozzarella, a decision has to be made as to the preference of the final dish. Whole milk mozzarella brings a fuller flavor and a creamy texture to recipes, but it does not brown as well and is not as elastic as part skim. Since 1855, generations of the Cravero family have been overseeing the staggionatura (cheese maturing) of the highest quality D.O....P Parmigiano-Reggiano. The Cravero family maintains cheese aging facilities both in Emilia Romagna and in the now famous town of Bra, home of Slow Food, where the family business has been headquartered for centuries. Giorgio Cravero (1808-1880) as head of the family started selecting Italian cheeses in 1855. Since then the Cravero family, has handed down this tradition from father to son, maintaining the same passion for the art of curing high quality cheeses. Giorgio Cravero's passion and skill in selecting the finest wheels from the tens of thousands produced has been learned from his father, his grandfather, and the two generations before him. With the cheeses they select the family name is literally on the line. Only after repeated deliberation, inspection, tasting and evaluation are these cheeses offered for sale. This Parmigiano Reggiano is made of raw cow's milk from the Friesian breed, which are strictly fed with local forage. The dairy uses hay most of the year to guarantee a constant level of milk quality. Made at the Caseificio Sociale San Pietro, no. 2659 in Benedello di Pavullo, situated in the Apennine hills at an altitude of 2300 feet, in the province of Modena. The cheeses are matured on site for 13 months. During this time, Giorgio Cravero selects the wheels that will be transferred to his own cheese maturing facility in the town of Bra. There the wheels will stay until they reach 24 months. This is an exceptionally smooth Parmigiano Reggiano, leaving almost a creamy finish in the mouth. It has moist texture interspersed with the satisfying crunch of the casein crystals. It is not dry, chalky or grainy. The softer texture of the cheese helps the bright flavors explode in your mouth. Succulent, slightly sweet, with detectable notes of exotic fruit such as pineapple, along with baked bread and a grassy finish. Balanced, mild acidity shows the extreme care this cheese receives, and unlike many US imported Parmigiano-Reggianos, no bitterness mars its final flavor. Made from unpasteurized cow's milk. Photo depicts whole 80 lb. form of cheese. We cut and wrap this item by the half-pound. Please contact us if you would like to purchase the whole form. read more

This sampler features four cheeses that are typical of four distinct regions of Italy: Provolone Piccante - The piccante (sharp) v...ersion of this classic Italian cheese is more complex than the younger dolce version. Provolone is great on sandwiches or chunked into an antipasto salad. (8 oz) Grana Padano Stravecchio - The original hard Italian cheese, Grana Padano is a firm, dry, fruity cow's milk cheese from the Po Valley of Northern Italy. Stravecchio is aged for an optimal 20 months. Grate it over pasta, vegetables or soup, or serve it as a table cheese drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. (8 oz) Mountain Gorgonzola - Italy's famous blue cheese comes from Lombardy. Made from whole cow's milk taken from local herds that graze on beautiful rolling pastures, no Italian Cheese Assortment would be complete without a cut of authentic Gorgonzola. (8 oz) Pecorino Toscano - This soft, 3 month sheep's milk cheese is made in the hills of Tuscany. It is young, sweet and springy. A natural partner with pears! We find that this combination well represents the wide variety of flavors and textures found in Italian cheeses. In the United States, many people associate paprika with foods from Eastern Europe, particularly with the cuisine of Hungary. The ...peppers used to make paprika are actually natives to the New World, but they are now grown in several countries, including Hungary and Spain. Spanish paprika is known as pimenton. Made from round peppers that are about the size of a peach, it is a paler shade of red than Hungarian paprika, and has a slightly different flavor. It is almost sweet in taste and is used both as a coloring agent and as a spice. The Spanish add it to seafood, sausages, rice, and many other savory dishes. This Denomination of Origin product, Pimenton de la Vera, is made from oak-fire-dried native peppers that are stone-ground to a fine texture. The peppers adopt a pleasingly smoky flavor from the fires. The resulting spice, a powdery smoked paprika, is available in sweet (dolce) and hot (picante) varieties. Our Safinter brand paprika's authenticity is certified by the "Pimentón de la Vera" Denomination of Origin, which is regulated by the European Union. Smoked paprika's use in cooking is almost endless. It adds an extra level of flavor to chili, soup, and stew; sparks up sauces, scrambled eggs or omelettes; and makes deviled eggs or spiced nuts deliciously different. Essential to a Spanish sauce named romesco, smoked paprika complements many Southwestern dishes as well. Rub it on meats to add a subtle, smoked flavor without actual smoking. Sprinkle it over rice, potatoes or casseroles. Finally, try drizzling olive oil flavored with Pimenton de la Vera over steak, chicken, fish, or vegetables. Varieties sold separately. read more

As much work should go into hors d'oeuvres as planning the meal. After all, first impressions make a big difference. Cheese has tr...aditionally been a simple, yet elegant foundation for entertaining. igourmet has done the work for you and assembled a selection of some of our favorite products. The key to entertaining with cheese is to provide novelty, diversity and a blend of tastes and textures that will appeal to different palates. Included in our Party Planner is the timeless classic, Mountain Gorgonzola, prized for its rich, sharp, blue cheese taste. A safe bet for all palates, an aged Irish Farmhouse Cheddar (one of the best you will ever taste), nicely contrasts the Gorgonzola with its sweet, tangy flavor. For decadence, we added a French creamy cheese (Fromager d'Affinois). Malagon with Rosemary, a savory sheep's milk cheese that imparts overtures of Spanish countryside herbs, grass and wildflowers, completes our cheese selection. The included Bremner Wafers make elegant vehicles for these fabulous cheeses. Next, we've selected 8 ounces of sliced smoked salmon, accompanied by cornichons. Serve on dense, thinly sliced, dark bread, lightly spread with Clotted Cream. To enhance this presentation, decorate the serving platter with thinly sliced lemons and fresh dill. Our Party Planner would not be complete without the deliciously Olli Salame and rustic Perigord Pate. Serve with the accompanied mini toasts and a bowl of our intensely flavored Greek Olives and Peppadew® Peppers. read more

Throwing a party for the whole office? Perhaps an engagement or wedding party? Maybe just a summer gathering of family and friends... by the pool? This ensemble will surely impress your guests, and, of course, provide them with more than enough to feast on. See our party planners above for our serving suggestions for most of the items. For our largest planner, we have added three more cheeses. Extra Aged Farmer Gouda, one of our favorites, has been aged for 18 months allowing its body to develop a muted caramel color and an intense yet sweet flavor. An aged artisan domestic cheese. And the "icing on the cake" is an English dessert cheese, White Stilton with Fruit. We've added more smoked salmon (bringing the total to a full pound of this distinctive fish), another jar of olives, and another French pate. Some new accompaniments that will bring out exciting new flavors with the cheeses and salmon. Cornichons are ideal with both smoked salmon and cheddar, and the chutney is a perfect addition to the selection of cheese and crackers. Don't send your guests out the door without a sweet goodbye. After all of these savory goodies, finish with French butter cookies, Cream Cookies, and don't forget the fruity Stilton. Bon Appetit! read more

"Follain" is the Gaelic word meaning "all that is wholesome, healthy and natural." A one-hundred-year-old recipe passed on through... several generations was the secret of Follain's first product, a chunky grapefruit marmalade. From there, they added more flavors and varieties. The unpolluted climate of West Cork, where Follain is based, is now famous for good food and stunning surroundings and is the backdrop for the Follain fruit which is hand picked in the surrounding fields and hedgerows. We carry Follain jams in flavors that are particularly representative of their northern European heritage. For example, gooseberries are large, tart berries that flourish on bushes in northern Europe. They make fabulous jams but are especially famous for the dessert that bears their name, Gooseberry Fool. This dessert is made from cooked gooseberries folded into whipped cream and can be made using this jam. Rhubarb and Ginger is a traditional Irish combination. Rhubarb has a wonderfully tangy flavor while ginger is a warming spice that tickles the tongue and wakes up one's taste buds. Varieties sold separately. read more

Grandma Jones kept her secret family recipe under lock and key until long after she arrived on the shores of the United States fro...m Ireland in the early 1900's. This unique blend of sugar, spices, and peppers has finally been introduced to the public by two of her descendants living in Pennsylvania. Made in the traditional manner with sugar and fruit pectin, Grandma Jones' jam also contains vinegar, diced green peppers, and crushed red pepper flakes. This surprising combination of sweet, sour, and hot makes a spunky party spread for cheese and crackers. It can also be used as a fat-free dip for vegetable crudités, shrimp cocktail, or chicken fingers. Creative cooks can use it as a marinade for chicken, beef or pork; may also be used as a last-minute glaze for salmon. Grandma Jones' Pepper Jam is an igourmet exclusive that is not to be missed.
