Frigidaire Freezers

If you have a large family or love to entertain, you can free up space in your kitchen freezer by investing in a separate, stand-alone design. A deep freezer is a smart solution for storing food in bulk so your family always has what it needs. A frost-free option prevents freezer burn, while a chest with an Energy Star rating will help reduce utility bills.

This is a Special Order item, Commercial, manual defrost chest freezer with 14.8 cu. ft. capacity. Heavy duty features include coo...ling system, shelves, and casters. NSF certified for food service applications. Includes MaxFreeze and 3 wire storage baskets. ... 7 visitors found this helpfulThe Frigidaire Commercial 14.8 Freezer is a good investment I bought this commercial freezer for home use. My thinking was that since they all say "they don't build them like they used to" that it might pay off in the long run to go with a commercial rated unit. The freezer is advertised as having a "heavy duty" cooling system. It is a very simple and basic unit without a bunch of added electronic features, which means less things to fail. COMPRESSOR: I removed the access panel and it has a "Panasonic DHS73C12RBU / R134A / 12.6 LRA / 1PH Made in Singapore 115V 60Hz" compressor. I Googled in that model compressor and it appears to be a well made, top of the line compressor. It runs fairly quiet in my garage with a slight hum. It made some initial gurgling sounds when it was first powered up but that has gone away after it stabilized. Initially the outside of the freezer got quite hot when the unit was cooling from room temp to freezing, but now it just gets warm when I put in items to be frozen if the compressor kicks in. This is how they are now designed to dissapate heat from coolant (no fan to fail). The 14.8 cu ft. is a nice size unit, not too big, not too small. I really like having the "Max Freeze / Normal" switch function. We turn it to Max Freeze a couple days before we plan to put in a large batch of food (beef, etc.) so freezer temp is well below 0 so new contents freeze quickly. After all is frozen we return unit to Normal and let the thermostadt keep it at ~0 deg F or slightly below. One nit I have is that the unit does not have a "Power On" indicator light (would be a small cost to the mfg). If your breaker were to trip you might not find out until it's too late. I remedied this by plugging in one of those small circuit testers that has the glowing neon lights so that when I drive into my garage I can seel at a glance that the circuit that the freezer is plugged into is powered up. The only other observation is that the freezer lid seems a bit cool to the touch, which might indicate that the mfg could have used more, or perhaps denser, insulation in the lid. Also, the unit is not "Energy Star" star rated. Perhaps this is because of the fact that you could leave the system set in the "Max Freeze" mode with compressor running 24/7 if you wanted to (commercial use). However, I don't think this unit is inefficient by any means when left in the "Normal" mode setting. After 3 months of use we are pleased with the units performance so far. I hope the commercial rating allows me to say this again in 15 years or so. I would recommend this product to a friend. by GadgetsGaloreEugene, OR | Tue, Nov 1, 2011 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag read more

It has plenty of room and provides excellent freezing of all items I have stored in it. In no time it had reached the proper temp and it operates flawlessly so far. It does make a little noise from the fan that allows it to be frost free. My husband even noticed it but that was compared to a 30 year old freezer that made no noise but manufactured ice faster than an automatic ice maker. This freezer is located in my laundry room off of the kitchen and unless I am in the room I cannot hear it. The space is great. I did buy some vinyl coated freezer baskets to organize my meats and to make things more accessible. I am very pleased with the interior light and the bands on the door shelves hold items in place but have a slight give for various shapes to fit well. All in all this was a great buy! If I find that the mechanics of this freezer don't live up to the convenience features, I will post an update. Hopefully you will not hear from me again! Speaking from experience, I have had two of these FRIGIDAIRE MNF. units and have found out the hard way that these units have a life of just over 3 years. The worst thing is not the dollars wasted on the unit....but, that the compressor goes out suddenly and you loose all of your food. At first I thought it was a power surge that fried the compressor,..but now, at a different home..the same thing has just happened to our second unit. The shelves are deep. The door has ample room for anything I need to grab quickly. Very roomy. The freezer reached temperature within 30-45 minutes after it had been plugged in. This is a great product and the unsafe temperature and door ajar sensors are a "must have" in the Texas climate. I prefer the wire shelving instead of the plastic shelves found in many other freezers. An excellent choice. The freezer worked fine, problem free from when we set it up for 1 1/2 years, then it stopped freezing. We didn't buy a service plan, our fault, but shouldn't products last longer than this. We paid a repairman $75 to come and tell us it would be cheaper to buy a new freezer than repair this one. Something about "internal contamination." All internal systems are not only covered by a one year warranty. Is that right? If it is internal then I cannot touch it, mess with it or break it. If it has contamination then it is something from the factory. "NO, sorry sir, still out of warranty." What a joke! Do yourself a favor, stay away from Frigidaire and Kenmore products, they are not as good as they used to be. by lachaquitabonitaTracy, CA | Sun, Jan 22, 2012 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 6 visitors found this helpfulA fine choice for my needs, so far. Had a small chest-type freezer give up suddenly without warning. Found out only when lid was lifted to reveal defrosted/spoiled contents. No light anywhere to indicate operation or lack of it. Food tends to get buried and forgotten in a chest-type, so, a portion of interior actually goes unused, accesssing items from top layers. Decided on this upright because: all contents visible and accessible, no more rooting through buried layers. lighted interior. operation light showing that unit is working, plus alarms for high temp. and door-ajar. Neat feature---when door touches cabinet it gets "sucked" closed to form a tight and secure door seal, requiring firm tug to open. Note for those interested, door is key- lockable to keep youngsters out of an unlimited ice cream or pop-sicle supply. Of 7 temperature settings (7 being coldest), a 3 setting gives a 0 degrees interior. Being an upright, yes it "runs" longer and more frequent than a chest-type and uses more electricity, I knew that. Each time the door is open, the cold air spills out, I knew that. Don't leave it open. A frost free unit, it uses more power and "runs" more, I knew that. And yes, I'd say it's slightly noisy but, It's in the basement so it's a non-isssue, I never hear it. Don't put it in the bedroom. Note that this unit is identical to the Kenmore badged unit of same capacity, but the Kenmore is priced significantly higher, go figure. They're the same, just different labels. I paid well less than $400. Very pleased with it so far. I would recommend this product to a friend. by flattwinjimGlenshaw, PA | Sat, Dec 18, 2010 Was this helpful?YesNo 0 comments | flag 5 visitors found this helpfulThink twice before buying!!!!
